Ferro Niobium

Product description

The main component of ferroniobium is an iron alloy of niobium and iron. It also contains impurities such as aluminum, silicon, carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. According to the content of niobium in the alloy, it can be divided into FeNb50, FeNb60 and FeNb70.

Performance and Features

1. Niobium is a plastic metal, gray with a body-centered cubic structure, its density is: 8.57g/cm;

2. Niobium forms NbC with carbon, its melting temperature is 3500-3800 degrees, its hardness is 9-10 Mohs, its excellent characteristics are good additives for making alloy tool steel.

Applications

1.Ferro-niobium is mainly used for smelting high-temperature (heat-resistant) alloys, stainless steel and high-strength low-alloy steel. In stainless steel and heat-resistant steel, niobium forms stable niobium carbide with carbon in steel. It is evenly distributed on the grain boundaries of the steel to prevent the grains of the steel from growing up at high temperature, which refines the structure of the steel and improves the strength, toughness and creep properties of the steel. The chemical affinity of niobium and carbon is much greater than that of chromium and carbon. Therefore, when niobium is present in stainless steel, it can prevent the precipitation of chromium carbide at the grain boundaries of the steel, improving the corrosion resistance of the steel. The niobium and nitrogen in the steel form stable niobium nitride, which improves the corrosion resistance of the steel surface. The niobium and oxygen in the steel form stable niobium oxide, forming a niobium oxide film on the surface of the steel, which can prevent oxygen from diffusing into the inside and play an anti-oxidation role.

2.Niobium plays the role of solid solution strengthening and carbide precipitation strengthening in the superalloy, improves the yield strength and surface stability of the superalloy. The weight of niobium is one of the lighter refractory metals, it is also one of the factors for the large number of high-temperature alloys. Niobium-nickel alloy as an additive for nickel-based superalloys is mainly used to produce 718 alloy. The addition of niobium to the permanent magnetic alloy can improve the coercivity performance of the alloy. The addition of niobium to the cast iron helps to spheroidize and form the pearlite structure to inoculate and refine the casting structure. Electric welding rods use ferroniobium as the solder component to improve the soldering quality.
