Molybdenum Metal
Product description
Molybdenum metal is one of the refractory metal elements, hard and tough with silver-white. Molybdenum can resist the corrosion of dilute sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, but not nitric acid and oxidizing molten salt. It is resistant to alkali at normal temperature, but it is corroded by alkali when heated. Molybdenum metal can also maintain high strength and high hardness at high temperature.

Performance and Features
As an alloying element of steel, molybdenum can improve the strength and toughness of steel, improve the corrosion resistance of steel in acid and alkali solutions and liquid metals, improve the wear resistance of steel, improve the hardenability, weldability and heat resistance of steel. For example, stainless steel with a molybdenum content of 4%-5% is often used in places with severe erosion and corrosion of marine equipment and chemical equipment.
Applications
1. Molybdenum has the largest consumption in the steel sector, mainly used for the production of alloy steel (approximately 50% of the total molybdenum consumption in steel), stainless steel (approximately 25%), tool steel and high-speed steel (approximately 9%), cast iron and roller (about 6%). Most of the molybdenum is directly used for steelmaking or cast iron after being made of industrial molybdenum oxide briquettes, and a small amount is first smelted into ferromolybdenum and then used for steelmaking.
2. Molybdenum oxide is a good solid lubricant because of its low coefficient of friction and high yield strength, it can be used normally in vacuum and various ultra-low temperatures and high temperatures, so it is widely used in gas turbines, gears, molds, aerospace, nuclear industry and other fields.
